THAT SUGAR FILM is ideal stimulus material for teachers wanting to explore food and nutrition content with students in Year 5 through to Year 10.
The School Action Toolkit is a suite of resources for schools that has been crafted around That Sugar Film and That Sugar Book to educate and raise awareness about sugar consumption. It has been designed to help teachers and students enrich their teaching and learning experience.
We are delighted to be working with Bupa, our Health and Care Partner for the School Action Toolkits and Schools Outreach program.
“Providing kids in Australia with access to information and tools such as the That Sugar Film School Action Toolkit is an important step towards addressing some of the nation’s toughest health challenges. Even small changes to our diets can help prevent many health problems like high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes.”
DR ZOE WAINER, Head of Public Health, Bupa Australia
The Study Guide is a key component of the School Action Toolkit and is mapped to Health and Physical Education and Design and Technology curriculum content for year levels 5-9. It has now been updated includes multiple versions of the teaching resources that are specifically mapped to the Australian, New South Wales, Victorian and Western Australian curriculums. AND… for our neighbours across the Tasman, we’re happy to advise that we have also included a New Zealand version of the teaching resources specifically mapped to your local curriculum!
We are working on a range of engagement initiatives, such as competitions and education videos, that will be delivered via our website and social media channels. These initiatives will include opportunities for schools to engage with Damon and other high-profile friends of the film. You will also be able to monitor your school’s progress and see what other schools around Australia are doing to reach their goals of raising awareness and reducing sugar consumption.
Please sign up to the Schools Mailing list below and follow us on Facebook to be the first to hear about these outreach initiatives.
It’s wonderful to be hearing from so many schools that would like to hold on-site screenings for their students and the wider school community.
Schools that purchase a School Action Toolkit are automatically granted an educational licence to screen the film on school premises. This licence extends to free screenings for parents and staff, but does not extend to fundraisers or ticketed events where an entry fee is charged.
FUNDRAISER AND ‘FOR PROFIT’ SCREENINGS
If you wish to host a fundraiser screening for your school, you need to purchase a ‘Community Screening’ licence which allows you to sell tickets to raise funds for your chosen cause.
Schools that have already procured a School Action Toolkit are able to purchase a discounted ‘Community Screening’ licence for a nominal fee. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with ‘School Fundraiser’ in the subject line and one of our team will get back to you with further info.
If you have not purchased a School Action Toolkit and wish to host a fundraiser or ‘for profit’ screening, please complete our Community Screening form by clicking below and we’ll get back to you with applicable pricing.
If you’d like more information about booking a cinema screening for your school, please refer to the Schools FAQ’s.
We encourage all teachers using the School Action Toolkit to complete our Teacher’s Feedback Survey. We value all feedback you can provide, which will allow us to update the toolkit in a way that teachers need most! To complete the survey, click the link below.
What teachers have been saying:
“I am so proud of my Year 4 students. Since seeing the release of That Sugar Film earlier in the year we’ve really focussed on sugar awareness in our classroom. The kids found everyday packaging, learnt to identify the added sugars and re all now awesome, informed consumers. Everyone made and displayed an example, we presented them at a whole school assembly and displayed them around the school as an installation. The impact on ‘my kids’, their families and the broader community is brilliant. Lives changed forever… Thankyou”
